Boiler and generator decommissioning – Harrods, London

When working in London at the world famous Harrods Department Store during opening hours, planning to ensure business continuity and minimal local disruption is critical.

Plant decommissioning and removal

One day, London.

The removal of a boiler and generators at the World Famous Harrods Department store in London required careful advance planning and partner co-ordination to ensure a smooth running job.

The generators were dismantled and removed from site by employing a temporary overhead beam up to the road level. Sections were then loaded onto a waiting articulated lorry supplied from a partner organisation, specialist in these types of operation.

Whilst on site hazards such as restricted headroom, plant room access and heavy loads for sections (up to seven tonnes in this instance) can be usual for work of this type, the store was also to remain open with minimal disruption. Access ways surrounding the location, such as roads and pedestrian pathways, were carefully controlled ensuring a balance of safety and access was maintained throughout.
