Complex AHU Installation: Engineered Lifting Solution at London University
At a prestigious London university campus, we successfully executed a complex air handling unit (AHU) installation project that required careful planning and specialised equipment. The operation centered around positioning a 1.8-ton AHU using our versatile Sperring AT3 crane. The site presented significant engineering challenges, primarily due to strict ground pressure limitations caused by underground vault structures.
To overcome these structural constraints, our team implemented a comprehensive two-part solution. First, we installed a robust back propping system beneath the vaults to provide additional structural support. Second, we deployed our aluminum crane mats to effectively distribute the outrigger loads across a wider surface area. This engineered approach ensured the safe operation of our lifting equipment while maintaining the structural integrity of the underground facilities.
The combination of strategic planning, specialised equipment, and technical expertise allowed us to complete this demanding installation while fully complying with the site’s structural limitations. This project exemplifies our ability to adapt our methods to meet complex site-specific challenges in sensitive academic environments.
