Tank clean, decommission and removal

Intech, an engineering company manages various private and public services including Conquest Hospital in Hastings. The hospital needed to replace a tank which is part of its heating system – during the Covid-19 pandemic. Intech turned to 1st Industrial and Commercial to decommission and remove one of the redundant tanks as part of the heating system upgrade works.

The tank to be removed was 10 metres tall, four metres in diameter and held 120,000 litres of heavy fuel oil (HFO). The fuel was removed, the tank cleaned and gas freed then removed. This involved cranes which meant road closures on a hospital campus at a challenging time, while clinical and NHS staff are dealing with a global pandemic. The 1st Industrial and Commercial team worked with the facilities team and hospital management to plan this work, making sure the solutions for road closures did not bring too much inconvenience. It was noted how sensitively the team dealt with any queries from hospital staff who had any queries.

This is an ongoing project and the 1st Industrial and Commercial team remain on site for the present time, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
